T20I Rankings Revolution: England’s Salt and Livingstone Make Big Moves
England’s Cricket Heroes Climb the T20I Rankings Ladder
England’s Phil Salt has blazed his way up to the second spot in the MRF Tyres T20I batting rankings, reaching a personal best of 802 points. His sterling performances in the recent high-scoring T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean, including scores of 119 and 38, have catapulted him 18 places up the ladder, placing him just ahead of Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan.
Despite Salt’s meteoric rise, India’s Suryakumar Yadav remains the undisputed king of T20I batting, comfortably perched at the top with 887 points. Liam Livingstone, another English powerhouse, has leaped 27 places to the 38th position, thanks to his impactful knocks of 54* and 28 in the series. His all-around prowess also saw him climb four spots to the eighth position in the all-rounder rankings.
West Indies clinched the five-match T20I series against England 3-2, thanks largely to their impressive bowling attack. In the series decider, they restricted England to 132 and chased down the target with six wickets in hand in a nail-biting finish. Akeal Hosein, the crafty left-arm spinner from the Caribbean, improved his standing, moving up two places to fourth among bowlers.
Gudakesh Motie of West Indies made a significant leap of 75 places after his stunning 3/24 performance, while England’s Reece Topley broke into the top 10 bowlers with a 13-spot ascent, courtesy of his five-wicket haul across two matches.
In other cricketing action, the ODI series between New Zealand and Bangladesh and India’s tour of South Africa led to several ranking changes. Shoriful Islam of Bangladesh climbed 24 spots to 35th, and India’s Arshdeep Singh moved up 41 places in the bowling rankings.
On the batting front, Najmul Hossain Shanto and South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi made significant gains. Soumya Sarkar’s explosive 169 against New Zealand propelled him up 52 spots, and India’s Sanju Samson’s century in Paarl earned him a 54-spot jump to a rating of 405.
Sarkar’s innings in New Zealand broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 13-year record for the highest ODI score by a sub-continent player in New Zealand, surpassing Tendulkar’s 163* in Christchurch.
